A lifetime of giving
Tom and Ginny D’Antonio are a thoughtful couple who enjoy traveling and spending time with family. After retiring to Pawleys Island, the D’Antonios started looking for a hospital that would care for them as they settled into this chapter of their lives. It was an easy decision to make after just one visit to MUSC in 1999.
“The doctors, nurses, and staff helped us to lose the fear and anxiety that comes with going to the hospital and being sick,” Ginny said.
For the past 20 years, the couple has turned to MUSC for all of their health needs. Tom recalls each visit as a positive experience – even the time Ginny needed a heart valve replacement in 2007. Their surgeon, Dr. Fred Crawford, worked closely with them to lay out a plan that brought comfort to the couple.
“After the surgery, Dr. Crawford’s nurse practitioner called us at home to check on Ginny. The personnel and staff could not have been more dedicated and professional,” Tom said. “We have never felt that the doctors could have done anything better with regards to Ginny’s care.”
After Ginny’s valve replacement, the D’Antonios began giving back through charitable gift annuities. This type of planned gift allows them to give back while also securing an income stream for the rest of their lives. They now have 10 annuities set up to benefit several areas at MUSC, including the Heart & Vascular Center, Hollings Cancer Center, the Department of Medicine, and the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery.
“We want to show our appreciation for the care we have received and ensure that the doctors are able to continue to help others just as they have helped our family,” Tom said.
