As you know, we celebrated our bicentennial in 2024 – commemorating 200 years of excellence in medical education, research and patient care. We also gathered in October to celebrate our MUSC Legacy Society, our faithful donors who have created support for MUSC through their charitable estate plans.
We took a moment to honor two MUSC Legacy Society members: Mary Eileen Leonard (1925 – 2016) and Dr. Mary Elizabeth Blanchard (1928 – 2020).
Our bicentennial theme, “Then, Now, Next” reminds us that our present is built upon our past and our future is imagined in our present. Mary Eileen Leonard and Dr. Mary Elizabeth Blanchard represent the “Then” – those who have come before us and those whose generosity has paved the way.
Andreal Williams, a College of Medicine student, and Chandler Curtis, a College of Health Professions student, represent the “Now” – the MUSC present, which includes our students, our patients, our MUSC physicians, nurses, researchers and staff – those who benefit greatly from the generosity of those who have come before.
And you, the MUSC Legacy Society members, represent the “Next” – those who have created generous support for the future – those who are helping to ensure that MUSC is enabled to continue the transformational work of medical education, research and patient care.
Your acts of generosity today are for tomorrow’s good. This kind of generosity, your generosity, is especially profound because those future MUSC students, faculty, staff and our patients will not be able to repay you for your amazing gifts.
The power of making a charitable legacy gift is an act of dedication and devotion. I hope you will take a moment to enjoy the video featured at our reception honoring the impact of the MUSC Legacy Society.
We are incredibly grateful for our MUSC Legacy Society members!
Gratefully yours,
